Loving the bass tone on this also weird to see Kirk play Sad without his Jackson…. that was great and seeing Kirk with a Gibson (?) on this is kinda weird. I'm so used to Rob now that seeing Jason on bass surprises me  |

Initial thoughts......
- Bob was right: the heavy guitars weren't loud enough
- Keyboards are pushed up in this mix
- Vocals sound dry and odd
- Kirk's little whammy hits at the end of the solos make me smile
- Snare is dry too
- I kind like the initial lack of solo doodles on the outro
- Outro sounds weird without the guttural "Never free.... never meeeee"

New rough mix of Unforgiven is really interesting ELABORATE GOD DAMN YOU. - Agree on the guitars, verses don't have that power the album version has - With that said, I love hearing all the various layers of acoustic guitars throughout the song that get a little drowned out in the final release - The clean solo section, at least the start sounds like a different take than we end up with. Or maybe it just got overdubbed? - Same goes for the vocals, the versus are either completely different takes, or are pre-Randy Staub cutting/punching different words over the top - The outro sounds so weird but so good, loving all the extra acoustic bits we hear - Parts of the outro vocals have weird echo/reverb effects to the point it sounds like Het is singing in an enclosed room - I wonder if these parts were recorded in Vancouver rather than One on One. All up - I love it, another new insight into the making of the album. And it's just a taste of what's to come. Hype level 1000. |

The part in the chorus when James gets all emo with the line "What I've known" is too loud and jumps out at you. Rough mix indeed.
It sounds like a polished demo overall if that makes sense. Those verses must have been place holders, they seem like a live take off the floor, where as 90% of the chorus seems like the final takes blended.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but the rollout of this is fantastic in terms of promotion. The box set has been on the top of my mind a couple times a week since it's been announced because of the slow drip of content.

Its not something I knew existed, perhaps they made it solely for this boxset?, but my feeling is that its kinda pointless, wont be something I want to watch over and over and ultimately takes the place of something more worthy of a deluxe boxset.

Yeah watching the band mime and pretend they are playing Enter Sandman while bright lights flash and try to give me a migraine doesn't have too much appeal to me. I'm not much into music videos as a whole though but I'm sure some enjoyed it.
Not complaining though, a shitload of great content still coming out way.

The Sandman video debuted 30 years ago today. I remember it was the first time my dad went up to my older sisters who had that song playing and said "Don't play that song. Better stop listening to that." I knew it must be good then. Waited until my parents left and told my sister I want to listen that, they had the single. That was a life changing moment and I thought this is clearly the best music there is. 30 years later, TBA went from not even being close to the best selling album of the 90s, to the best selling music album in the world of the Soundscan era. Maybe I was right.  |
