The only thing I think I’m disappointed about is the lack of including Bob Rock in some way. But maybe he’s included in the book? Yeah it's a bit odd. I would have loved a Randy Staub mix of Moscow 91, and some Bob Rock interviews/edits/mixes/takes on things. It seems even after 40 years the Metallica way is still very much a "this is our team now and this is where our heads are at now" sort of feel. Greg's in the producer seat, and Bob is barely acknowledged, just like Bob was the producer in the 90s and Flemming was forgotten. Not that we have any idea what goes on behind closed doors, or how much they interact or engage each other for projects. Bob was so important to the bands 90s sound, so his absence does go noticed, but also we did see Bob sell all his Producer rights recently so maybe he's just choosing to live a simple, stress and media free life and declined any involvement.

Let's be honest though, we don't really know what exists or doesn't or who is involved or who isn't, right now. There might not even BE a Randy Staub Moscow mix save for the handful of tracks that got released as B sides. So they're not going to pay him money to remix something when they already have a guy to do that right now. I guess they want the approach to mixing that they feel is right for where they are right now.

Funny how different stuff appeals to different people. I'm more excited for all the content of this Black album deluxe box set than I have been for anything the band has released since Death Magnetic.
It's more content of the era of the band I grew up with and album/era I still go back to more than anything else. So keen to hear the riff tapes, rehearsals, works in progress, early versions, different mixes of some of my favourite songs. Keen to see and hear concerts that match the quality of Moscow 1991, the definitive live show. All the behind the scenes and back stage stuff that will be basically be part 3 of A Year And A Half in the Life of Metallica which is again something I grew up watching over and over again.

Are re-masters only of studio original music or will Garage, Inc. and S&M have a release as well?

I do hope he was involved in some way, like in the book for example. It would’ve been cool if he was part of the introductions in the Ross Halfin book. Rob even got a spot on that. But like was mentioned above, maybe he was offered and declined.

Still can't believe they remastered Justice without bass There are a lot of fan remixed versions with the bass, I only liked one of them that was done just right imo (most of them crank the bass so high that it sounds silly for this kind of music) and it's the only version of Justice I'll ever listen to again. The choice to turn it as low as they did was dumb and with dumb excuses. The version I have makes the record better.

As always the Moderus remixes that MP did of a couple songs were the gold standard.

Are re-masters only of studio original music or will Garage, Inc. and S&M have a release as well? Yes. It's worth considering that the advertisement banner is from way back when they released the deluxe versions of KEA and RTL at once and planned to get MOP out the same year. Obviously plans changed pretty massively since now we're in an effective 30-year anniversary cycle due to the Hardwired tour and S&M2 taking precedence. Depending on how things go, I think there's a non-zero chance some of the planned deluxe releases end up not happening or getting scaled back due to other ventures or lower sales potential.

You think there are any extra covers from Garage Inc. that have been kept a secret? Like a full version of that song that fades out and ends the album?

I think there's a good chance we'll get at least a couple unreleased songs/jams of covers from the Load and Garage sessions. I can't even imagine what they have in store for the 2000s albums considering how publicized the amount of Demo Magnetic-level demos they have from these eras.
Also pre-emptively excited for the prospect a mixed rehearsal version of Minus Human.

That change of plans woud also explain why the remastered version of Garage Days Re-Revisited didn't appear on the poster. It didn't get any deluxe/ boxset treatment, though. ---- The boxsets I'm more interested in are the ones for St. Anger, DM and Hardwired for the unreleased demos/ outtakes.

MATE i appreciate the link. Ive not had reception for days and i see TBA set preorder emai from 5 days ago. Was beating my head to remember the name Descrepancy and accepted i had to make a quick purchase thru metstore while i had wifi. Ive since checked and im only out by about 14 dollars using metstore and their ridiculous shipping so im happy....will likely take longer to arrive and Id have prefferred to use them again though. ...have got other boxes from them and always good pricing

Yeah it's awesome, sounds like the final drum tracks we got on the album, with potentially guitars and vocals recorded live on the floor?

But like was mentioned above, maybe he was offered and declined. I'm sure he was/is involved. He was the producer. Can't tell the story without him and they don't strike me as treating ex-key personnel in the way that Kiss currently do..... I do thing it's fucking stupid they had Rob write an introduction to the Halfin book though. He played 18 shows of that whole 3 year tour with Suicidal. I get that he is a current member but it would be ok to not have him placed so prominently. Still can't believe they remastered Justice without bass Well that's because that would be a remix..... I've posited that theory on Judas a while ago and got shouted down. It looks like they plan to do that but I would find the S&M box a weird one.... there's been not B&P box... .are they going to do a TTN box too?? Those were officially canon live albums..... to be honest I would rather they focus on the studio albums first before the live stuff. From St Anger on wards is gong to be be bountiful in terms of demos/song sketches and so on. That's when the archiving really kicked into gear I think. We have all the Presidio stuff AND the stuff from HQ that never made it onto SA. DM had the 4 tracks on BM but I think I read somewhere there was around 18 tracks demoed (fully) for that record.... it's gonna be sweeeet!

Could be, there are a number of fills that aren't there and parts that are played differently (most noticeable are the cymbal crashes before the solo). But we know this was a cute and sellotape album from Randy Razroblade!

I've been waiting for this one forever. Because this is the most interesting process in Metallica's career and it's also the album I fell in love with Metallica. I can't wait to listen to riff tapes, demos, takes and all that other stuff.
Only thing I dislike is the snare from Moscow 1991 remix. Why Greg Fidelman sampled overprocessed snare when he could do the gunshot snare in last year's HQ Show?

Personally, I've never been a fan of demos. Outtakes, unreleased material, on the other hand, is where the money is at. That's why I am somewhat intrigued about the St. Anger, DM and Hardwred deluxe releases/boxsets.

That's why I am somewhat intrigued about the St. Anger, DM and Hardwred deluxe releases/boxsets. About same for me. I've given the other box sets a couple listens through, and I enjoy hearing the history behind them so I'm 100% glad they're getting released. But I knew when the project was announced that I wouldn't really be counting down the days until the later album box sets got announced.

The biggest draw for me is the riff tapes, writing in progress, alternate takes, recording in progress (e.g. incomplete songs) and early mixes.
I love and still listen to the works in progress versions of Eye of the Beholder and Frayed Ends, the later having no vocals or solos yet, just because the riffs sound so fucking good. The former having partial vocals and different guitar overdubs present that make me like the songs more and hear them in different ways. Just like I'm loving this Sad But True Take 36 release from when they were recording drums.
Demos are usually a listen once as a curiosity sort of affair and move on, especially when they're identical in song structure the final product.

It's always a bit weird to see the end of the Justice era leaking into the new 90s look and sound. For me, the Guitar World magazine with James and Tony Iommi on the cover (and the god awful look James is sporting) and the transition from Barking to singing, was the turning point. So these earlier vids are pretty much a treasure.
