If it's another recycled thrash metal material they've been using for 40 years, no I don't want the new album either. I don't know why but all these post 2000 thrash songs sounds like it's recycled from MoP-Justice. Spit Out The Bone had potential but it's again too fucking long. Whole HTSD album sounds like dragged down mixed version of MoP, TBA and Load. Hardwired is Battery 2.0 , Moth is radio-friendly Disposable, Dead is Disco Enter Sandman, Atlas is cover band trying to make Puppets song, Dream No More is Sad But AiC... and the list goes on. They have so much possibilities for a new album because they are not your typical metal band but they limit themselves so much sometimes it bugs me. I think symphonic version of All Within My Hands is great example of that. I'd also love to some exclusive stuff from Black, Load days rather than hearing 4662732832th version of the same thrash song.
I will never hear Now That We're Dead any other way after reading this description. I will try use this to rid my mind of those giant fucking drums.

An EP with 4 cover songs would be nice to tide us over while they are working on the new album.
I'd say they could cover Aerosmith, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Thin Lizzy

I'm fine with them recycling the 80 shit, just wish they'd do it better. Leave the 90s out of it. (Especially the Loadisms) The 90s stuff is a crutch to keep it simple so they can use simpler bits of the 80s along with it. They're trying to please everyone with 'the best of Metallica/pre St. Anger' when doing so doesn't make the music it's best. Dilution.
I'm fully expecting a 3rd album of this sort, and probably their last.
I wish James would pick up his classical guitar again.

I want to compare the career of Metallica with the career of Quentin Tarantino - where was QT before Kill Bill and where was Metallica after the great success of the 90s. How much Quentin has done in 20 years and where he is now :star: - and where is Metallica now (QT had side projects too). There is a large “black hole” (creation) that has been somewhat blurred by the intervention of Lou Reed. This discography is shrinking - I expect "Kill Bill from Metallica.
