‘89 show tonight. Probably a terrible take, but we already have the pinnacle of that tour in the form of Seattle ‘89 since the sets are largely the same. so I’m not too hyped about it. But it’s still awesome to see them covering all years, and it’s cool to have this just as more content. I gotta say, I kind of liked it more than Seattle.

Damn really? I gotta give it a listen in full then. I skipped around and saw some cool stuff. Notably them trainwrecking Am I Evil and Motorbreath lol.

Yeah it was pretty good, well worth the time to check out. This show was only a few months after I saw them for the first time.
Its the stuff from the vault we've been waiting years to have put out.
Loved the footage from stage sides. Felt like you were standing behind Jason for lots of it. Good footage of 80s Metallica fans. Had a laugh at the guy front row fighting to hold his spot from the guy behind him (during Sanitarium I think it was).
Than of course there was the horse walking across the stage, Lars singing and Kirk sat on a large frog at one point. Just your typical show.

It’s a unique watch, really enjoyed it. You feel like part of the Metallica crew.

It's pretty average show, standard 2000 IMO. Some clown just posted the whole setlist in the show thread over on the other forums, so will probably abandon now and just listen to the song I want to listen to once it's finished.

I like it cause I feel very nostalgic about that time period. Not just in metallica world but in general.

Not yet, but I'm hoping for some excellent eyebrow work from Hetfield during Clover.

This was a cool watch. There's some moments that are undeniably Load-era, but others where I was surprised to see Jason there instead of Rob. I vaguely recall arguments about "Rob helped the band bring their roots back" and stuff like that, but this show definitely emphasized that they were back on the trail to leaving the image-focused mindset behind.

Hmmm, I like James' voice a lot more here than on S&M which was only a year earlier.

Was another good viewing experience, this time soundboard with minimal crowd noise. Heard many recordings like this but not often with video. Couple of Garage Inc tracks was nice. Master -> Sanitarium -> Master was a jolt.

I'm getting I Disappear vibes from this show (they also look like a boyband).

I SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR 6/16/04 AND THEY GIVE ME 6/13/04 I HATE THIS BAND AND I AM BURNING EVERY METALLICA SHIRT I OWN THANKS TO THIS CHOICE
can't wait to watch :) St. Anger era gets so much more shit than it deserves because of how much of a trainwreck the LiveMet mixes were.

I think they had him do the mixing in addition to his normal job which I can imagine was a big ask on him, so he couldn't really sit down and mix them properly. Greg Fidelman & Co. are hired to do all of the mixing now, so they sound a lot better and Mike definitely isn't stretched as thin.
This is all a lot of speculation but that's what I've noticed.

Those were done by Mike Gilles weren’t they? And he’s no longer with the band? Yes and yes. But to be fair to him, the SA tour they were recording the show and mixing it, at the venues, rather than in a pro-studio. The set up was amatuer by their standards hence the more raw and rough sound of the 04 tour downloads. As the tours progressed they spent more money on proper mxing and mastering. AFAIK it's actually outsourced to a company now , credits of LM booklets indicate "The Team at Factory Six". Googling shows up nothing much. Seems that this Dan Monti guy has done some mixing on LM release and he has a histriiy with the band: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Monti

Haha me and Jayc's posts cover the truth well enough. He's right, it's outsourced to a company now, but Greg was doing some of the 2017 shows. I think he sort of set the guidelines for how the shows should be mixed, and then a company took over.
Mike is definitely with the band though still. His Instagram (@metmixer) shows him working at 2018 shows and at S&M.

He left them in 2018: http://instagram.com/p/BnMK-_ehvJ6 As I mentioned earlier, I think mixing is now farmed out to a company.

His last IG posts are from 2018 with the band, and S&M is clearly in the crowd. I figured he was doing some remote mixing from the balcony. Good catch.

The guy back there (correct me if I'm wrong) is a long haired guy with glasses that's doing that mixing at least in the tuning room. Unless that was a temp guy.

God, a 2004 show with proper mixing. Just what I needed in my life. I always thought they were on their sloppiest and worst during that tour, but it goes to show you what an actual proper recording can do. Not bad at all!

I forget that guy's name but he is basically just mixing the IEMs for the tuning room, that and the word prompts on the iPads etc. AFAIK he has nothing to do with LiveMet recordings.
