Great show. I love the intro film to the Black Album section, the way struggle just keeps going while all those clips play. 8 years, damn. My kids weren't even born yet, a whole other lifetime.

It's Chicago 1983. The same show from the KEA deluxe boxset but with the track with no audio removed.

I'd love to see a 1995 show cleaned up and used for one of these. Those transition years always yield some of the coolest sets. I'm glad we got a 2015 show already. An early 2008 show where they randomly played more Load-era songs would be cool too. Libson 2008 had King, Bleeding, Devil, and Fuel all in one set! That Apil 08 period was right when my obsession began and I joined the original metbb boards. James' voice sounded incredible in the rehearsals that were released and the best bits of Judas came out on Mission Metallica... they played some cool looking places too like that arena where they played with Flea. Really cool time to be a fan following them online.

I'll pass on this one. Im so tired of 1981-1983 era. Agree but I'd take it further. The Kill/Ride/Puppets era of the band has been celebrated endlessly over the last few years. Don't get me wrong, I love the boxsets I have from that 80s era, but it's all been done to death at this point, so many videos, photos, books and interviews done on those early years and the Cliff era. Keen to see them get right into the 90s nostalgia and revist the Black/Load/Reload/Garage years the way they have done with the 80s stuff. I get the interest probably isn't there like it is with the 80s stuff, but there are still plenty of diehards that will love it.

I understand you completly. I think that because of so much material that has been released about early years (books, interviews, documentaries etc.) i feel like there is no stone unturned left. Like if somebody told me that there is unseen interview with the band from 1983 and lets say 2000 i would be so much more interested in the latter one. Because we all know what would be in those 1983: we're huge fans of diamond head and motorhead, we love european metal and want to bring in to the states, we hate la and posers etc. And if you take any of the biographies of the band literally like half of the book is goinh to be about beginnings. Then significant amount about AJFA controversy and BA commercial success and all of the rest of the bands history squeezed together into couple of pages.
The reason why I didn't include 1984-1986 in that post is because I don't think I have ever seen live footage of metallica from 1984 or Ride the Lightning tour. And that I think that there are only to proshot shows from Cliff era (day on green and the one with disposable heroes '85).

Kudos to the band for absolutely killing it with these concert choices. This week is the most interesting Met by Request show (besides the Frayed Ends debut) where a ton of staples didn’t make it. I love it.

Yeah no NEM is big, I always hoped they would leave the staples out a little more as the years rolled on....but didnt really happen.
Gonna watch this one later on today

Gonna watch this one later on today That's the dream of the longtime fan. I'm with you. The counter-argument (and it's incredibly valid) is that every gig is someone's first gig so it's not fair to not give them the "hits", so to speak. Thos of us who are a bit more long in the tooth, Metallica-wise can do without NEM....

Met By Request was a little disheartening to see just how many staples the majority of fans still wanted. Sandman, One, and MOP should never leave the set, but it's hard to imagine that many people getting sad that NEM or Bellz aren't played EVERY show, even just in favor of songs like Unforgiven/Fade and Thingy/Leper.

Thos of us who are a bit more long in the tooth, Metallica-wise can do without NEM.... I dunno, NEM is always a good moment at a show, same with Sad. Even after all these years...NEM brings that calm energy to a show, with all the lighters (smartphones) held up and the crowd singing...it's always a nice moment. Similar to quiet part of My Friend of Misery live a few years back. Sad brings the polar opposite, the heavy moment in the show where the whole crowd is jumping in unison, again it's a good vibe/energy at the show. They are unique moments only those songs can bring. If we're dropping staples, it's One, Bells and Fade I would happily give up seeing ever again. Especially One. I would include Sandman but that's never going to be dropped.

Is it weird that I enjoy Lars' stupid intros

Nah, at least he is not intimidated that he is filmed unlike Rob lol. Look he is being Lars which is far from being ordinary and he owns it which comes very natural. Now comparing that to watching Rob or Kirk is ...yikes.

No, I like them too! It reminds me of the Lars babbles from long ago, which I really enjoyed. It's entertaining to watch his body language and I can't help but to try and mimic it myself when watching.

For 30 years I've listened to this man rambling and there's always something interesting or funny in what he has to say. Never gets old. He should do ASMR videos.

They are great when he's talking and rambling about shit not trying to be cool/funny like when he stands up and does that stupid finger click thing into the camera, those moments are just cringe.

It reminds me of the Lars babbles from long ago Yup!! Good days. JITS was a lifeline in the days before social media. Those Babbles and the photos..... awesome stuff. I can still remember the feeling of when Lars and Kirk joined us in the MetClub chat room once. That was nuts. Good times.

Love watching these when they first show them, rather than on YouTube later as work/kids take up most of my time. As I'm in the UK it starts 01:00 hrs though, which is a bit late to watch it all if getting up for said work/kids early doors. Loved the London & Lima shows in particular.

Enjoyed this show a lot. I'd forgotten how much I like Wasting My Hate. Playing Until it Sleeps after the NEM solo worked well. Best thing about watching the band interact with the crowd was that there was no cameras being squashed into every available airspace - just the fans soaking up the moment, watching it happen up close in their face. They should release the Blow the Load crew-shirts for sale in Metstore.
Watching this show got me extra keen for the Load boxsets. Should be some cool stuff, hurry up with teh Black album set!
