"Taken from a dusty old VHS tape from the Metallica Vault" So is it like a tease of what they might be preparing for the black album box set?

I wonder if it will be pro-shot or not. Looks like it will be a combination of in-house cameras and audience: Filmed by the House Cameras
Additional Bootleg Footage Filmed by Otto Weyer
Audio Recorded Through the Soundboard
Additional Audience Recorded Audio taped by two sneaky Metallifux
Audio Made Listenable by Greg Fidelman

I'm 16mins in.... and I'm FULL of the memories of being a Metallica fan in 1991. Fuck me. Talk about rose-tinted glasses...... anyone got a Delorean?

Yeah, it was pretty cool. Weird to hear some of the improvy type of bits that were not solidified yet, like the lead outro for unforgiven etc.

That was the best live version of The Unforgiven I've heard! Finally a version that comes close to the greatness of the studio version.

Cool, the original version of the Justice Medley is here. Kind of funny to see that they went on tour behind the massively successful Black Album with only four (front-loaded) songs. They added more at a pretty steady pace but still. Holier Than Thou meanwhile just got completely sidelined in favor of Through the Never by early 1992.

Really enjoyed it and took me back to great times as well.
The little things, like their little solo exchanges at the end of One, that they would have discussed and changed up as the tour progressed. Was great to watch

I hope they continue to dig in to the past like this. I mean yeah Rob era shows are great and whatnot but I think that perhaps the majority of fans would like older stuff as that feels more "new"..... if that makes sense.
I was scrolling through the thread on MetFor yesterday and I was surprised just at how many people were posting things like "No Spoilers" and "Oh Kirk is playing a white Strat"..... stuff that is engraved in my psyche. Then I realised that I'm fucking old and TBA was step two of my Metallica journey. So I knew (roughly speaking) what the set list was before I looked at it...the fills... the things that were new to that tour that would later morph into something more polished (the Drum Duet, Jason's solo.... "Mother-fucker-die" etc). Lots of current fans (shall we say?) don't know that stuff so for them it's a revelation almost. So it's a win-win: older shows plays into the nostalgia for older fans and it's an exciting new thing for newer fans.
Let's see what's next. Could we hope for a Load-era show?
SIDENOTE: Dan said that the contents of the TBA box set have been locked in for a while now and this show came too late in the discovery period for inclusion (although they are using Holier from this show in the box....).

That Polar Ice Beach show in tuktayuktuk (?) Would be cool, or one of the Lollapalooza sets.

I'd love to see a 1995 show cleaned up and used for one of these. Those transition years always yield some of the coolest sets. I'm glad we got a 2015 show already. An early 2008 show where they randomly played more Load-era songs would be cool too. Libson 2008 had King, Bleeding, Devil, and Fuel all in one set!

Those early 2008 shows have so many good picks among them, damn. I forgot how adventurous they got with their sets in the DM cycle. So many Load/ReLoad era cuts, a whole variety of KEA and cover songs, and shows like Berlin where the only thing they played from the Black Album was Of Wolf and Man and Wherever I May Roam. Add Frantic, Until It Sleeps, Jump in the Fire, Blitzkrieg and three Death Magnetic live premieres and you've got one hell of a set.

They had that weird run where they didn't play the standards like NEM and Sandman in favor of some deep cuts. They released that whole show already somewhere but the mx was shitty. Might have been a fan can.

Or, now that they are set up remotely, a suprise actual live jam session of whatever would be super sweet 😊

Saw the opening with Lights, jumped back on later and heard Lars slaughtering poor Unforgiven with about 12 disgusting snare fills and went back to work. Might skip through the show some time later. Loved those Black album shows...but Lars really did a number on Unforgiven during this time which I forgot about until today.

I'm a Lars fan.... but he hasn't played Unforgiven tastefully since 91-93. I always skip that song in the live setting now. But not just for the snare fills but also James's AWFUL delivery of the title..... "Un-four-geeeeee-vaaaaaannnnnnn". NO!

I know it's a very popular song and a live fan favorite, but every time I listen to a performance of it from 2007 on, I just wish they'd never brought it back. It barely worked in 91-93 (like, it really felt like they were on the razor's edge and it could've fallen apart any time) and they made the absolutely correct call in retiring it after that because it just doesn't sit right live.
Lars plays it too fast or is too skittish with the fills (or both), James can't match his amazing studio vocals (and overcompensates with the awful, nasally chorus he does these days) and the transitions from the heavy verses to soft choruses sound terrible. And don't get me started on Kirk's clean tone, ugh. At least his solo is usually pretty solid and free of terrible improvisations.

There are some Metallica live songs i always skip (live recordings I mean although I left the building while NEM and Sandman were being played on some shows in 2017) and the Unforgiven is one of them. Everything you guys said about it here I completly agree on. But having said that when you're at the show and unforgiven starts casuals love it (overwhelming majority of the crowd).
About this week metallica monday: its really great to have good mix of struggle and misery. And that FFWF performence must be one of the best ever.

It's a crime that MFOM was only played once since that tour, and Struggle none. Don't Tread On Me can stay in the Escape bin though. IIRC James said in an interview that he only came around to that song because they were forced to play it on the anniversary tour.

Another great Metallica Tuesday.
How fast was hit the Lights haha! Lars was wired for that one.
Fight Fire was sick, love how it was sung.
Misery with the crowd participation was great - the exact opposite to the crowd shit in Sandman.
Hell and Back was a surprise. You dont see James break strings a lot and change a guitar midsong.
