They should probably cancel these shows, to be honest. The outbreak is only getting worse.

I've been wondering if cancellations are coming too.
Miley Cyrus was supposed to headline a Bushfire relief show here tmrw, but pulled out last minute due to travelling with the CV problem. She seemed legit with her wanting to help over here so I expect the decision was not made easily

The tour will most likely be either put off or flatout cancelled. If I'm not mistaken the same promotor of these shows is the one of Lollapalooza, which was postponed for November or December. So who knows...

They still haven't postponed or cancelled those yet? Really?

No live show for over a year then. Massive gap for Metallica standards.

Honestly, I don't think there will be any concerts in the world in 2020. Unless there's a vaccine, the world will be in lockdown for quite some time now. Sad but true.

Lollapalooza in South Americn has been put off for late 2021. Perhaps Metallica's shows in this part of the world -- slated for late 2020 -- will follow suit?
In other news... Pearl Jam have announced dates for their European tour for mid 2021.

The SA tour has been officially postponed for some time next year. Most likely for late 2021.

I don't think this tour will happen in December. Will they put if off yet again for March/ April next year, or flatout cancel it? Personally, I wouldn't mind the latter. I'd rather they toured less and focused on the new album to have it ready for some time in 2022.
Here in Argentina the lousy national government has handled the pandemic poorly. Despite the recent announcement of more flexibility, they are doing it just for electoral reasons: they've just been massively defeated in the primaries and want to pander to the "masses" for the November elections. Bread and circus. That's the only truth.

Yes, in Feb. One night is Metallica; the other, Billy Joel.

Extremely un-Metallica.
How was the show itself?!

The setlist was cut by two but the number of staples has remained the same. I think the days of exciting setlist changes are mostly over.

The few years of the Hardwired tour were also extremely boring setlist wise...yeah two more songs were played (from Hardwired) but the sets were mostly the same with only a couple of songs different each night. They brought 2-3 different songs out again in 2019 but the sets were mostly static.
It's the same now, except we just get 2 HW songs + Greatest Hits instead of 4 HW songs + Greatest Hits.
Expect some "excitement" like Spit being swapped out for Hardwired, Moth for Now That We're Dead. Maybe a cheeky Harvester instead of Holier/Never, a Fade/Roam instead of Unforgiven/Clover....maybe a surprise appearance of Day or Orion? It'll be something like that for the next year or so I reckon.
If they ever get back down here I'm guessing the price will be a shit load more than we paid in 2019 too (the tour that never was)...getting harder and harder to justify

I wish they would give some to love to DM (Life, S&R, U III, Apocalypse, Day), and St. Anger (Dirty, Unnamed Feeling).
Brazil has 4 dates this week. And then in June it's Europe with some American dates after that towards the second half of the year. I'd bet Australia/N. Zealand could have a tour in Jan/ Feb?

Extremely un-Metallica. How was the show itself?! I enjoyed it but wasn't super thrilled as other times, knowing their setlist are pretty "stock", with no new material to present nor deep cuts on the horizon. They surely still deliver the goods. But they could've: - paid tribute to the Black Album by playing another track instead of Sad But True; for instance Through the Never, Don't Tread on Me, you know the more obscure ones - played something off the Loads other than Fuel or Memory - something off St. Anger, any of the the rarer songs (other than Frantic or St. Anger) After all it was a full-on Metallica show, not part of a festival. If the band doesn't take risks now, then when...?

All in all, Hardwired really ushered in a more 'refined' era of Metallica between the more stock setlists, a huge up in quality on videos, and the bigger stage production with video transitions. I really hope it isn't the case, but 2015 so far seems to be the send off of the Metallica that these boards were all excited about from 2007 on (can't recommend the 2015 Metallica Monday video if anyone hasn't sat down and watched it).
Not at all related musically but I'm glad I've gotten into Dave Matthews Band over the last few years to scratch that itch. I wish Metallica would take a note or two out of their book just to realize you don't need to play ALL the hits EVERY night to have a great show.

They brought that and St. Anger back into rotation in 2019, I really hope they don't leave them behind. In general I have no clue why they at least aren't using some of the rarities they already refreshed on for the 40th shows. Frantic, I Disappear, Wasting My Hate, Bleeding Me, The End of the Line... those would all be welcome guys.

Yeah, I don't get why most bands think that having one, two or three (super) rare songs on the set, whether it's at a fest or own show, would put the casual listener off or decrease the energy level of the show. Even if it does, it's just a small fraction of the experience, it won't hurt at the end of ther day. What's more, it's your chance to expose the casual listener to the obscure songs they will never explore otherwise.
