I'm trying to find what the first show where James used the 12-string for Fade to black was. Anyone wanna help me? I had no idea until today that he had used it earlier than '93-'94. Sometime in 1992 he started using it. The earliest video I can find of him using it during a show is of the Mobile, AL show on June 14:
On May 30 in Anchorage, AK he still played it on a 6-string:
...So that leaves us with these dates in between: Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR June 1, 1992 Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR June 2, 1992 Delta Center, Salt Lake City, UT June 4, 1992 Casper Events Center, Casper, WY June 5, 1992 Metrapark Arena, Billings, MT June 6, 1992 Tucson Convention Center, Tucson, AZ June 9, 1992 America West Arena, Phoenix, AZ June 10, 1992 America West Arena, Phoenix, AZ June 11, 1992

The Fade to black performances I can find from those shows in between (in order):
Can anyone hear if it's a 12-string being played or not? I most often can, but I'm not sure here...

From remembering A Year and a Half..., Lars was talking about debuting NEM (this was 92) and he mentioned 'James' 12 string arriving by FedEx tomorrow'. There was also a clip in there with James rehearsing Fade with the 12 for the GNR stadium tour that summer
From metallica.com
Nothing Else Matters
First Performed Live
MAR 02, 1992 Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
As far as those clips you posted, it sounds more like 6 string with weak, distorted audio than a 12.
I can't nerd any further than this
