Metallica actually releasing a new studio album full of great songs would surely inspire some action on this board.

Metallica's last album and a farewell tour imo. It was great while it lasted.

There's no way they they are bringing out an album after this one.

Idk. With the financial crisis they 'supposedly' have, why would they call it a day after this album?
Something tells me they want this album beyond excellent to gain back whatever They lost.

They remind me of a band in hiatus.

Honestly though, I think this will be the bands last album. We'll see a few tours around the world to back it. That will finish up and they'll do the odd gig here or there, those Giants days etc...I don't think they'll officially announce they are done, their activity will just taper off.

I'm going with this, but thinking more Rob leaving to go do something actual music related, and that will break them up and it will just stop.

I suggest we leave that to the coming thread, we don't want to clog up this one with tyre science. My guess is that there will be another album after the one we are currently waiting on. They are recording enough for 2 releases which will be staggered. After that, one offs - movie soundtrack song, tributes to other bands, etc

I think they're gonna go to 12 albums. They'll do this one and a double one to wrap up their career.

If the new album isn't a double CD, i'll be astounded. They had 2000 riffs.

What if Metallica decided to do a grunge album, like Nirvana's Bleach, that was really good and has 15 3-4 minute songs

I'd love a mixed bag.
a couple of thrashers.
a couple of ballads
a drop C tuned rocker
some weirder Reload type stuff
an instrumental.

That Was Just Your Life 2. The Unforgiven III 3. Where The Wild Things Are 4. The Prince 5. Low Man's Lyric 6. Trapped Under Ice 7. The Outlaw Torn 8. Dirty Window 9. Bleeding Me 10. No Remorse 11. Orion 12. Dyers Eve Probably would be their best album

If Lulu was just a Metallica album with James Singing, same songs, same words and all, It would have been epic, weird and probably their best album.

If Lulu was just a Metallica album with James Singing, same songs, same words and all, It would have been epic, weird and probably their best album. Lou Reed was the real "genius" behind Lulu. Metallica just wrote a couple riffs and called it a day.

A double album full of riffs is more then just a couple of riffs to be fare. Lou had had his Poems a key for the songs and place he wanted the songs to go and Metallica brought them to that place.

Except they didn't write most of it, so it would basically be Metallica being Britney Spears. edit: I see tw already addressed it so I'll just say something else, to be fair about Lulu. The problem with Lulu is that the bad parts are bad, and the non-bad parts are average or uninteresting at best.
